First post! Newport Folk Festival [09 Aug 2009|12:08am]

[ mood | creative ]

Hi!

So I'm a new member looking for friends with similar interests, which is how I wound up here. Iron & Wine has been my favorite band since 2005. I've seen him three times live and met him twice.

I just went to the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, RI last weekend. Iron & Wine was the main attraction for me, but performances from the Avett Brothers, Fleet Foxes, Decemberists, Deer Tick, and Gillian Welch were also great. Also, I mean, Pete Seeger was pretty epic considering that he's 90 years old and still rocking.

Anyway. The point of this post was to point out to those who might not already know that NPR has a downloadable archival copy of Sam Beam's entire performance at the Folk Festival up on their site.

My personal favorites were Such Great Heights, Trapeze Swinger, Upward Over the Mountain, and Glad Mouth River (a new one). The entire set though is worth a listen.

And if you poke around, I'm pretty sure all the acts from the festival are available for download (if not just highlights from the set).

The only bummer is the file's not split into tracks, but I'm sure it can be done.

Does anyone have an mp3 of Wade Across the Water they'd be willing to send me some way or another?

I'd give my metaphorical left nut for it.

on last call w/ carson daly in 2005 [15 May 2008|07:10am]

seasontoseason
I've been looking forever for video of Sam on Last Call with Carson Daly. It was several years ago... i'm fairly certain it was February 8th, 2005. Im also fairly certain it was a song off of Our Endless Numbered Days, but i dont remember which one it was.
I saw this when it was on and I have been looking for it online ever since and haven't been able to find it. There is one video on you tube of him on last call (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XXD20DhV4c) but it isnt the one i'm looking for. The one on you tube is Sam and Sarah... I remember the one i saw being just Sam. And also I remember that he was sitting down, and in this one he is standing. So...any help would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Iron and Wine = <3<3 [05 Aug 2007|12:48pm]

Hi guys, a new member here.

I'm glad I found this site because almost none of my friends like Sam Beam. I'm from 'Netticut and I guess Northerners don't like him as much :/

The first song I heard from him was 'Trapeze Swinger', and although it's a relaxing, quiet song, it was powerful in its own way. People I introduced this song to complained that it was redundant and was too long, but that's what I loved about it. I like Sam Beam's delivery of unique but consistent melodies as well as his poignant lyrics (you agree with me right?) As a guitarist, it's fairly simple fingerpicking but absolutely fun and relaxing to play.

Since then, I've been following Iron and Wine's progress, and finally I can find Youtube video's of him playing, which is awesome.

As I'm writing this, I'm dl-ing the new album (thx stablegirl!). Although I feel kinda guilty, I think I'll buy his album anyways because he's just that great.

Thx guys for reading. Pz.

Iron & Wine icons? [18 Mar 2006|09:58pm]

redbaroness
Does anyone happen to know of any Iron & Wine icons? I just joined this community a while ago, and I haven't seen any as of late. Or, if someone could make me one? I'd be happy to give something in return. I make a lot of mix CD's, that's usually what I trade people for. I'd love an icon of Sam Beam specifically, there's one I've seen around that's a picture of him on a pillow with stars of some kind on it. Anyway, thanks in advance! And I'm glad to be a part of this community--I hope that someday I can see Iron & Wine live, on a weekend preferably!

Alright... my boyfriend and I are argueing about this right now, and so I searched online to see if there was some place I might find the answer (so I can prove him wrong, ha!) and I found you guys. :)

In the song "Sodom, South Georgia" on the Our Endless Numbered Days album, when he sings the lines "All Dead White Boys say 'God Is Good'... White tongues hang out 'God is Good'..." does anyone else think it sounds like he's singing with his tongue sticking out? Not on the actual lyrics, but on the humming part afterwards... it sounds like his tongue is out to me. I thought it was ironic and a bit cheeky (which I liked) considering the lyrics right before. My boyfriend thinks I'm imagining things (which wouldn't bother me totally, i'd just keep on imagining them, cause i like to think he is).

So anyone else agree with me, or am I just crazy? :P
